Dr. Zegenhagen passed his certification at EANTC

Dr. Stefan Zegenhagen, director of development for Carrier Ethernet products at arcutronix GmbH, has passed the official examination of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) for “Carrier Ethernet Professional 2.0” at EANTC in Berlin. The successful testing and the passed certificate confirm that Dr. Zegenhagen is familiar with the requirements and services of Carrier Ethernet 2.0. He will transfer his knowledge into the team and adapt the upcoming products from arcutronix to the requirements of MEF.

The certification program of the MEF for the latest version of Carrier Ethernet 2.0 was introduced in 2012. The new CE 2.0 certification program for services and equipment complements the presentation of the new version of Carrier Ethernet with eight new services. CE 2.0 brings over the previous version, significant improvements through the alignment of the MEF services to the needs of companies with respect to the application performance by specific service level agreements. The CE 2.0 certification was developed to bring the benefits for users, service providers and equipment manufacturers available more quickly – with higher quality and lower costs.

CE 2.0 supports multiple classes of service and management across interconnected provider networks across. CE 1.0 only standardized services through a dedicated network. E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree and the new e-access service are now both port-based as well as a virtual service certifiable. The MEF 9 and MEF recognized retained 14 certifications.

Andreas Zimmermann, CTO of arcutronix, is pleased with the successful certification. “Especially the short time it took to achieve certification according MEF2.0 shows that arcutronix has worked and developed previously at a high level. The learned requirements will help us to improve our products to serve our clients at the highest level. “

Keeping up with Data Centre Interconnect

INFINERA | INTERVIEW

Keeping up with Data Centre Interconnect

Stu Elby, senior vice president of cloud network strategy and technology at Infinera, discusses the growing demand for inter-data centre traffic and the efficient solutions which should respond to this challenge.

TUESDAY 03 March, 2015

“…In the early days of cloud, the same equipment was used for both Data Centre Interconnect and end-user traffic. However, with the rise of social media and machine-to-machine communication, bandwidth requirements across DCI have taken off and require a new class of equipment.

With this shift in speed and demand for terabits, operators cannot provide a solution that chews up half a rack of equipment and requires a kilowatt of power – that model simply would not fit into a data centre real estate or energy profile…

At Infinera we have attacked this challenge by applying our photonic integrated circuit technology which allows us to achieve very efficient power and space profiles – the purpose-built Cloud Xpress box…”

Infinera’s Cloud Xpress will be on display at the Fibre Technologies stand, #G68A, at Data Centre World, 11th – 12th March at London Excel

New Partnership with Infinera

We are proud to be showcasing the new Cloud Express product from Infinera at Data Center World on 11th / 12th March, specifically aimed at the Ethernet backhaul / connectivity between data centres. Employing the same unique photonic integration technology that also powers Infinera’s market leading transmission and mesh switching solutions to maximise on bandwidth, power saving and rack space, the Cloud Express is ideally placed to provide effecient transport of 10G, 40G and 100G traffic. A common user interface simplifies installation and the option of Infinera’s “Instant Bandwidth” licensing scheme can significantly reduce the initial capex investment required to deploy this high capacity and low latency stackable platform.

Make a date to come and see us at DC World and we’ll look forward to meeting you on stand G68A

MRV joins the ONF, focuses on SDN and NFV

MRV Communications(TM), Inc. (OTCQB: MRVC) (“MRV(R)”), a leading provider of innovative packet and optical solutions, today announced it has joined the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) and is participating in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute’s (ETSI) Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Industry Specification Group. MRV will bring over 25 years’ expertise in packet and optical networking to the standards bodies. Together they will focus on leveraging software and virtualization to architect innovative, next-generation networks. The company’s participation reflects its strategic roadmap towards network virtualization and software-driven services that will help carriers, data centers and content delivery providers achieve a more intelligent network, reduce OPEX and deliver high-value, revenue-generating services easier and faster.

“MRV is a trusted partner in the access and metro networks, and through long-standing customer relationships, we have gained a deep understanding of what it takes to create better, more open networks,” said Edna Ganon, director of technology, MRV Communications. “With virtualization of the metro network providing the next step for optimum network usage and dynamic behavior, collaboration within the industry is key to delivering exactly what the market needs. We look forward to working with our colleagues in the ONF and ETSI communities on bringing interoperability and standardization to the next generation of software-based networks.”

Many networks today are not optimized to support the rise in demand for cloud and mobility services, or the bandwidth-rich content that comes with them. Networks must evolve in order to keep up with exponential traffic growth and new traffic patterns. Much of this evolution will occur at the access and metro levels, where most of the transactions take place and individual services are created. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and NFV approaches will help in this process as they look to streamline network operations so advanced services are easier to manage and providers can more easily meet high service levels. The NFV initiative–lead by ETSI–is focused on using virtualization to decrease the amount of proprietary hardware needed to launch and operate services. SDN is an approach lead by ONF in which network control is decoupled from hardware and moved to a software-based controller.

“ONF is a user-driven organization, that brings consumers and suppliers of SDN technology together to address real-world networking challenges in markets that include data centers, metro networks, and wide area networks,” said Dan Pitt, executive director, Open Networking Foundation. “The collaboration between these leading global companies is critical for enabling extremely dynamic, manageable and cost-effective architectures. These standards will ensure better integration and interoperability throughout the SDN ecosystem and accelerate the delivery of SDN benefits to today’s operators and enterprises.”

FUSION ETHERNET H1

TRANSPACKET H1; a fusion networking add-drop muxponder

TransPacket addresses the increasing demand for high capacity and high quality optical network transport services, dynamic networking and management simplicity. TransPacket?s unique and patented Fusion Networking allows wavelength-grade Quality of Service (QoS): Ultra-low latency, ultra-low latency variation and zero packet loss, enabling transparent transport of e.g. synchronization information (IEEE1588) and high-quality video. Additionally, the high capacity utilization known from packet switching is achieved using statistical multiplexing on top of the circuits. Through combining circuit switching of packets and packet switching of packets within a single wavelength and without using time-slots, fusion networks combines the best properties of circuit and packet switching in a unique way.

Addressable markets and applications

Mobile backhaul
TransPacket H1 features important functionalities for mobile-backhaul. Ultra-low latency variation enables synchronization through transparent tunneling of IEEE1588 packets. Additionally, H1 supports SyncE (G.8262). Ultra-low latency and latency variation, as well as zero packet loss enable transport of QoS-demanding services, while statistically multiplexed packet transport at the same time, enables efficient utilization of resources in the network.

Metro network
A Metro network should be able to transport and aggregate traffic from a diverse type of services like e.g. mobile services, gigabit lines from business customers, aggregated traffic from DSLAM?s, High-quality video traffic for broadcasters, etc. The unique TransPacket fusion technology enables easy transport of all these services within a single wavelength. The Add/drop functionality of H1 allows aggregation and redundancy in a ring-network structure. Furthermore, the deep buffering of H1 enables efficient statistical multiplexed aggregation.

Efficient and secure business access
TransPacket H1 enables transparent transport of traffic from business customers. Fusion networking allows isolation between business customers, increasing security, performance and availability. Furthermore, a centralized approach for controlling the services increases simplicity, reducing OPEX. The H1 meets a set of requirements within the business segment, such as low latency, transparent transport layer, ease of operation and maintenance, rack space limitations, dual redundant power feeds, low power consumption and pluggable optics. It serves the growing bandwidth and QoS demands for numerous business applications through wavelength grade QoS and transparent GE lines along with optical diagnostic and protection capabilities. The unit comes with complete performance monitoring, and can be integrated in your existing management systems using CLI, SNMP, RMON and Netconf management.
